Al Ahly seek agreement with Mohamed Sherif over contract termination

Al Ahly are attempting to reach an agreement with forward Mohamed Sherif to end his contract by mutual consent, according to FilGoal.

Sherif’s current deal with the Egyptian club runs until the summer of 2030, but discussions are taking place over the terms of an early termination after he fell out of favour with head coach Hussein Ammouta’s technical staff.

The 30-year-old returned to Al Ahly at the beginning of last season following a two-year spell with Saudi Arabian club Al Khaleej. However, he made 20 appearances for Al Ahly during the campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

His reduced involvement has come as Al Ahly reshaped their attacking options during the summer transfer window. The club have signed three new forwards: Moroccan striker Sufian Benjeddah, Algerian forward Monsef Bekrar and Aqtai Abdullah from ENPPI.

Those additions have increased competition for places in attack and contributed to Sherif being left outside the plans of Ammouta’s coaching staff. Al Ahly are now seeking an agreement that would allow the player to leave before the end of his long-term contract.

No details of the proposed settlement or the possible next destination for Sherif have been disclosed. The discussions concern the format of the contract cancellation and are intended to bring the existing agreement to an end by consent.

The latest development comes alongside a separate decision involving Al Ahly defender Omar Kamal. FilGoal previously reported that the club’s management had decided to give Kamal his release document, allowing him to choose the club he will join next season.

Kamal spent the second half of last season on loan from Al Ahly at Ceramica Cleopatra. The 32-year-old has made 51 appearances for Al Ahly, scoring six goals and registering 11 assists.

Al Ahly’s attempts to resolve Sherif’s situation, together with the decision regarding Kamal, form part of a summer reshaping of the squad. Sherif remains under contract until 2030 unless an agreement is reached, while Kamal has been given the freedom to decide his next club.
