Al Ahly secure Egypt winger Mahmoud Salah on contract until 2031
Egyptian winger Mahmoud Salah has joined Al Ahly from El Mahalla for €600,000, completing a move that takes the 18-year-old to one of the country’s leading clubs.
Salah, who plays on the left side of attack and prefers his right foot, signed for Al Ahly on 14 August 2026. His contract runs until 30 June 2031.
The teenager arrives after making his senior breakthrough with El Mahalla during the 2025-26 season. He made 11 Premier League appearances and scored once, while also featuring in the Egyptian League Cup, Egypt Cup and relegation play-off.
Salah’s most productive run came in the relegation play-off, where he scored three goals and supplied three assists in 12 appearances. Across the campaign, he also played five times in the Egyptian League Cup and once in the Egypt Cup.
His move to Al Ahly comes one year after he stepped up from El Mahalla Under-19s to the club’s senior side. He had previously joined El Mahalla’s first team on 1 July 2025, beginning the progression that has now taken him to the Premier League champions.
The transfer fee of €600,000 is higher than Salah’s listed market value of €350,000. The deal gives Al Ahly a young Egyptian attacking player with experience of league football and cup competition, while Salah begins the next stage of his career at a club competing in the same domestic division.
Born on 22 September 2007, Salah remains 18 at the time of his move. He is registered as a left winger and has represented Al Ahly at national-club level in the available records.
Salah’s arrival strengthens Al Ahly’s attacking options ahead of the 2026-27 season and marks the latest step in his rapid rise from El Mahalla’s youth system to senior football. He leaves El Mahalla after one season with its first team and joins Al Ahly on a contract lasting until 2031.
