Al Ahly rules out Pitso Mosimane return amid coaching speculation
Egyptian giants Al Ahly have distanced themselves from reports linking former coach Pitso Mosimane with a possible return to the club.
Speculation had intensified across the continent in recent days, suggesting that the club could revisit its past success under the South African tactician—widely known as “Jingles”—following uncertainty surrounding current coach Jess Thorup after the team’s disappointing CAF Champions League exit.
Mosimane, who spent close to two years in charge of the Cairo-based side, was widely tipped as a potential candidate should the club decide to part ways with Thorup.
However, club legend and media figure Ahmed Shobeir has firmly dismissed the rumours, insisting there are no ongoing discussions between Al Ahly and the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach.
“Pay close attention so that things are clear. It is like someone trying to return to something that ended a long time ago,” Shobeir said, per Btolat.com.
“This applies to the talk circulating about Mosimane and Weiler. These files were completely closed a long time ago, and there is nothing that warrants bringing them up again.”
“Al-Ahly club has its current situation and will continue until the end of the season, and it is natural to monitor some coaches in anticipation of any circumstances, but that does not mean there are real negotiations.
“The matter is settled, there is no intention to bring back Mosimane or Weiler, and talking about that is illogical, especially since if Al-Ahly is thinking about the future, its focus will be on stability or choosing new elements, not returning to former coaches.
“This idea is completely out of the question, and the picture should be clear to everyone,” he added.
For now, Al Ahly appear committed to their present course, with no indication of a managerial shake-up involving Mosimane.
