Al Ahly rule out move for Pyramids FC coach Krunoslav Jurčić
Egyptian giants Al Ahly have reportedly dismissed speculation linking them with a move for Croatian trainer Krunoslav Jurčić, despite uncertain Pyramids FC future.
Earlier reports suggested the highly-rated tactician could depart Pyramids FC for a new challenge following a successful spell that saw him guide the club to the CAF Champions League triumph in 2025.
The Croatian tactician is believed to be assessing his options after feeling he has accomplished much of what he set out to achieve during his time with the Cairo-based side.
The speculation intensified amid suggestions that Al Ahly were considering Jurčić as a potential candidate to lead the club next season following a disappointing campaign.
Al Ahly endured a difficult 2025/26 season by their lofty standards, finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League behind champions Zamalek SC and runners-up Pyramids FC.
The disappointing league finish means the Red Devils will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season rather than the CAF Champions League, increasing pressure on the club’s hierarchy to make significant changes ahead of the new campaign.
Reports had claimed that Jurčić was among the names being considered to replace current coach Jess Thorup following a season in which Al Ahly fell short of expectations in both domestic and continental competitions.
However, sources within the club have strongly denied those claims, insisting that Al Ahly have not held any talks with the Croatian coach.
According to the reports, the club’s management have neither entered direct nor indirect negotiations with Jurčić and have not included him on their shortlist of potential managerial candidates.
While Al Ahly appear to have distanced themselves from the speculation, Pyramids remain eager to retain the services of their highly-rated coach.
The club’s management are understood to be committed to keeping Jurčić in charge despite reports suggesting he is contemplating a fresh challenge elsewhere.
Jurčić has earned widespread praise for his work at Pyramids, helping the club maintain its position among the strongest teams in Egyptian football and competing consistently at the top end of the table.
With no final decision yet made regarding his future, uncertainty remains over whether the Croatian will stay at Pyramids or pursue a new opportunity.
For now, Al Ahly’s stance appears clear, with the club denying any interest in appointing Jurčić as they continue their search for solutions following an underwhelming season.
