Al Ahly treasurer Khaled Mortagy has dismissed rumors linking the club to Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, ahead of their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking on the club’s official channel, Mortagy stated:
“With Mahmoud El-Khatib heading the football department, alongside a planning committee, a skilled sporting director, and a top-tier coach, discussing transfers is not within my responsibilities.”
Mortagy emphasized that the club remains committed to building a strong team but refrained from addressing the high-profile speculation directly. He added:
“Dreaming of signing Ronaldo or Salah for the World Cup? We have always fulfilled our promises to Koller and reinforced the squad as requested.
We have the best team in Africa. However, transfers are not for me to discuss. There is no financial ceiling on transfers, and any player requested by Koller will be pursued as a target.”
Financial Details of Club World Cup Participation
Mortagy also addressed the financial aspects of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, shedding light on the revenue-sharing structure outlined by FIFA.
“FIFA President Gianni Infantino informed club representatives that all income generated from the tournament will be distributed among the participants after deducting organizational costs,” he said.
He clarified that the revenues will be divided into two components:
“The first is a participation bonus equally allocated to all competing teams. As for claims of receiving a sum of $50 million, those figures are purely speculative.”
Al Ahly’s Club World Cup Fixtures
Al Ahly, crowned the “African Club of the 20th Century,” is set to embark on a challenging campaign in the expanded Club World Cup.
They will open their group-stage matches against Inter Miami on June 15, 2025, followed by a clash with Palmeiras four days later. Their final group-stage fixture will be against Porto on June 23, 2025.
With the tournament introducing a new 32-team format, Al Ahly is gearing up to showcase their strength on the global stage while managing expectations about potential marquee signings.
