Al Ahly reject Ammouta’s request to sign defensive midfielder in January

Al Ahly have reportedly rejected head coach Hussein Ammouta’s request to strengthen the team’s midfield during the upcoming January transfer window.

The Moroccan coach had identified the defensive midfield position as a priority and wanted the club to sign a new player to bolster his options in the position.

Ammouta was understood to have requested a defensive midfielder, with the club considering both local and foreign options ahead of the winter transfer window.

However, Al Ahly’s management has reportedly decided against pursuing a new player for the position at this stage.

The club does not believe there is currently a suitable defensive midfielder in the Egyptian league who would significantly strengthen the squad.

The situation is further complicated by Al Ahly’s foreign-player quota, which is already full. As a result, bringing in another foreign player would require changes to the current squad, something the club is not prepared to do at the moment.

Instead, the club is expected to encourage Ammouta to make use of the midfield options already available to him.

Akram Tawfik, Ahmed Khaled Kabaka and Ahmed Nabil Koka have been identified as players who can provide cover and compete for the defensive midfield role.

The decision means Ammouta may have to work with his existing squad rather than getting the new defensive midfielder he had requested.

Unless Al Ahly’s squad situation changes before the January window opens, the Moroccan coach is expected to rely on the available midfield options for the remainder of the campaign.
