Al Ahly registers rising trio for CAF Champions League campaign

Al Ahly has officially added three promising young players, Mohamed Zalouk, Mohamed Raafat, and Mohamed Haitham Abdel Azim, to its squad list for the CAF Champions League.

The club’s statement confirms the administrative team finalized their registration ahead of the group stage, following the vision of Danish coach Jess Thorup, who believes these talents will bolster Al Ahly’s options for upcoming matches.

The inclusion comes after exclusive reports suggested their imminent registration, beating rumors about other youth players. Al Ahly’s full African squad is now packed with depth, covering all positions from goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy to forward stars and the three newly registered prospects.

The group stage draw has placed Al Ahly in Group B alongside Tanzania’s Young Africans, Algeria’s JS Kabylie, and Morocco’s AS FAR Their first match is on November 22 against JS Kabylie in Cairo, followed by an away match in Morocco.

Coach Thorup is set to resume training after a short break, with several key players, including Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet and Hussein El Shahat, still working through rehab protocols.

On a different note, Al Ahly lodged a formal complaint over offensive chants targeting Ahmed Zizo Mostafa during the Egyptian Super Cup. Meanwhile, Zamalek also filed a complaint over Zizo’s conduct at the awards ceremony. Both clubs and several players were fined by the Egyptian Football Federation as a result.

Al Ahly is now focused on preparing for the opening matches as their new young talents aim to make their mark in Africa’s top club competition.
