Al Ahly reach initial agreement with Mohamed Hany over new contract

Al Ahly have reached an initial agreement with Mohamed Hany over the terms of a new contract, but negotiations remain ongoing over a participation clause.

The club and the 30-year-old have agreed the main details of the proposed deal. However, they are yet to settle on wording that satisfies both parties regarding the clause, according to FilGoal.com.

Hany wants the provision included because some of his Al Ahly team-mates have received the same benefit. The clause would provide a contractual advantage based on the number of appearances a player makes for the club.

Al Ahly removed the participation clause from their regulations in 2018 once a player had made more than 200 appearances for the club. The threshold was later increased to 300 matches before the provision was ultimately removed from the club’s regulations, regardless of how many games a player had played.

Hany asked for the clause to be included when he last renewed his Al Ahly contract in 2024. The club rejected that request at the time, citing its decision to abolish the provision.

He eventually signed a three-year extension in 2024, meaning his current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2027.

Despite the unresolved issue, Hany wants to remain at Al Ahly and has no intention of leaving, according to information obtained by FilGoal.com. Talks between the player and the club’s management are continuing.

Al Ahly have already completed contract renewals for Emam Ashour, Marwan Attia, Mostafa Shobeir and Karim El Debes. Negotiations are also still taking place with Hany and Yasser Ibrahim before any renewal announcement is made.

Hany began his career in Al Ahly’s youth system before being promoted to the first team in 2015.

During his time with the club, he has won eight Egyptian Premier League titles, four Egypt Cups and four CAF Champions League trophies. He has also lifted the CAF Super Cup twice and the Egyptian Super Cup four times.

This season, Hany has made four appearances for Al Ahly in the league and has completed every one of those matches without being substituted.
