Al Ahly provide injury update on captain Mohamed El Shenawy and Taher Mohamed Taher

Al Ahly captain Mohamed El Shenawy has suffered a second-degree muscle strain, while Taher Mohamed Taher is recovering from an elbow injury, the club’s medical chief Ahmed Gaballah has confirmed.

El Shenawy sustained the injury during Wednesday’s training session and will begin a programme of rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

“Taher Mohamed suffered a severe bruise to his left elbow and a sprain to the ligaments during the Abu Qir Fertilizers match. He is continuing his treatment and rehabilitation,” Gaballah said in a statement published on Al Ahly’s official website.

Taher’s injury occurred during Al Ahly’s 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” and Hussein El Shahat scored the goals as Al Ahly returned to winning ways at Cairo International Stadium.

The result followed a 1-1 draw with El Mokawloon El Arab in their previous league match.

Al Ahly moved to 13 points and provisionally took top spot in the league table, with the matches involving Zamalek and Pyramids still to be completed.
