Al Ahly president Mahmoud Khatib invited to 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opener

Al Ahly president Mahmoud Khatib has received an official invitation to attend the opening ceremony of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, scheduled for 21 December.

A source at Al Ahly told Kooora that El Khatib has given initial approval to accept the invitation and be present at the ceremony.​

The source added that El Khatib plans to stay in Morocco for a few days on a private break, during which he will visit several cities. During his stay, he is also expected to attend some of the tournament’s matches from the stands.​

The plan could include travelling on from Morocco to France to undergo medical tests, following advice from his personal doctor who recommended that he take some time off.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly’s first team will hold their final training session this evening before Danish coach Jess Thorup names the squad that will enter a closed camp for the match against ENPPI, set for tomorrow in the first round of the Egypt Capital Cup group stage.
