Al Ahly President Mahmoud El Khatib made a notable stop in Barcelona this week as he continues to shape the future of the Egyptian giants both on and off the pitch.
Photos shared by Mohamed Kamel, head of the company handling Al Ahly’s new stadium, showed El Khatib alongside Barcelona President Joan Laporta. The visit, while low-key, signals the possibility of future collaboration between two of the most storied clubs in world football.
According to Kooora, the talks focused on youth development and stadium innovation, areas Al Ahly are keen to grow in. The meeting may also revive an exciting proposal, a potential farewell match between the two clubs, as hinted by former Al Ahly striker Emad Meteb during a recent TV appearance.
This wouldn’t be the first time the clubs have shared a pitch. Al Ahly faced Barcelona in Cairo in 2007 and again during the 2009 Wembley tournament. As Al Ahly look ahead, Khatib’s Barcelona visit could mark the beginning of a new chapter in international cooperation.
