Al Ahly prepares for AS FAR match with eight players missing and Hussein El-Shahat resumes training
Al Ahly confirmed that winger Hussein El-Shahat has resumed group training after recovering from a hamstring injury, though he will not travel with the team to Morocco for their upcoming Champions League match.
Dr. Ahmed Gaballah, the team’s doctor, explained, “El-Shahat completed his final round of individual rehabilitation, joining training tomorrow with other absentees to prepare for a full return after the AS FAR game.”
Al Ahly faces the challenge of playing without eight squad members due to injury and fitness issues. In addition to El-Shahat, the club will be without Ashraf Dari, Mohamed El-Shenawy, Mohamed Abdallah, Mohamed Shoukry, Ahmed Abdelkader, Nejr Gradisha, and Mostafa El-Ash. Gradisha is suspended, while the rest are recovering from various injuries.
Dr. Gaballah shared updates: El-Shenawy started physical therapy for a recent adductor injury, and coordination with Egypt’s national team medical staff is ongoing. Mostafa El-Ash was released from the hospital after suffering a mild concussion in training; he will begin a six-day rehab based on FIFA concussion protocols. Medical scans showed Ahmed Abdelkader sustained a partial hamstring tear, while Mohamed Shoukry has a first-degree calf strain.
In their last training session in Cairo, head coach Jess Thorup held tactical meetings before the team’s departure. Spirits are high following Al Ahly’s decisive 4-1 win over JS Kabylie in the previous group-stage match.
