Al-Ahly Sporting Director Mohamed Ramadan has imposed a significant financial penalty of one million pounds on midfielder Emam Ashour following an altercation with team captain and goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy.
In addition to the fine, Ashour has been suspended from training for one week.
The incident occurred after Al-Ahly’s African Champions League match against Stade d’Abidjan, where the team secured a 4-2 victory in the first round of the group stage. Reports indicate that Ashour expressed dissatisfaction over not being included in the match lineup. Midfielder Ahmed Nabil Kouka attempted to calm him down, but Ashour refused and raised his voice, escalating the situation.
Team captain El-Shennawy stepped in to diffuse the tension, reprimanding Ashour for addressing the issue in the stadium rather than at the team’s El-Tetsh training ground. This intervention ultimately led to disciplinary measures by the club.
Al-Ahly remains focused on maintaining discipline and professionalism within the squad as they advance in their Champions League campaign. The decision to penalize Ashour underscores the club’s commitment to upholding team values and cohesion.
