Egyptian giants Al Ahly are pushing to land Orlando Pirates trainer Jose Riveiro as their new coach following the departure of Marcel Koller.
Riveiro is expected to arrive in Cairo on Wednesday to officially open negotiation as the club seeks to appoint the Spanish gaffer as their new coach.
The Egyptian powerhouse is currently without a substantive coach following the sacking of Marcel Koller few weeks ago. Koller was shown the exit door after failing to snap CAF Champions League final spot.
Al Ahly are in the hunt for top-notch coach as the team gear up for the FIFA Club World Cup to be staged in the USA next month, with Riveiro emerging as the frontrunner for the job.
The Egyptian club have already booked flight for the highly-profiled coach and awaits his arrival on Wednesday. He will lead Al Ahly at the FIFA Club World Cup if he is able to finalize a move to the Egyptian club.
And according to reports, Al Ahly is offering Riveiro and his backroom staff 135,000 USD monthly, almost half of Koller’s salary during his spell at the club.
Riveiro is ending his three-year spell with the South African giants after failing to renew his contract with the team.
He came close to clinching three consecutive Nedbank Cup title for Orlando Pirates but missed out at the weekend to Kaizer Chiefs. Before this final, Riveiro had steered Pirates to back to back Nedbank Cup title.
