Al Ahly make formal move for Petrojet left-back Toufik Mohamed after Youssef Belammari injury

Al Ahly have made a formal offer to Petrojet for left-back Toufik Mohamed as they seek an immediate replacement for Youssef Belammari, who is expected to miss the entire season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

A source at Al Ahly told FilGoal.com: “We have submitted an official offer to Petrojet to sign left-back Toufik Mohamed.”

The source added: “We informed Petrojet of our desire to complete the deal, either on loan or on a permanent basis, after Youssef Belammari suffered a cruciate ligament tear.”

Al Ahly announced that Belammari had sustained the serious knee injury during their friendly against Spanish side Badalona. The Morocco international was initially reported to have suffered a knee sprain during the match, but subsequent examinations confirmed the extent of the damage.

Belammari joined Al Ahly in January 2026 on a three-and-a-half-year contract. Since arriving at the club, the left-back has made 19 appearances in all competitions.

The proposed replacement, Toufik Mohamed, is 26 and also operates at left-back. He played 31 matches last season and provided one assist.

The move comes as Al Ahly attempt to strengthen their squad while continuing their preparations in Spain. They began their friendly programme there with a 3-0 victory over Badalona.

Two of the club’s recent arrivals scored in the win. Ali Mahmoud opened the scoring before Aqtay Abdullah added a second, while Ahmed Zizo completed the victory.

Al Ahly striker Sofiane Benjedida missed the opportunity to add another goal in the first half when his penalty was saved by the Badalona goalkeeper.

The two players who recently joined from ENPPI made a decisive contribution, scoring two of Al Ahly’s three goals before Zizo added the final strike.

Al Ahly’s training camp in Spain will continue until 20 August, with the squad scheduled to undertake intensive daily training sessions and play further friendlies.

Their main fixture during the camp will be against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August.

Al Ahly will begin their Egyptian Premier League campaign against Eastern Company ENPPI and will finish the first half of the season with a match against Wadi Degla.

They are scheduled to play 13 of their 19 matches in the opening phase at Cairo Stadium.

The Egyptian Premier League is due to start on 21 August, with the first phase scheduled to conclude on 20 February. The second phase is expected to begin on 8 March, with the season ending on 28 May.

Those dates remain subject to any changes to the May calendar caused by the finals of continental competitions, as explained by Taha Ezzat, chairman of the competitions committee.
