Egyptian giants Al Ahly have moved quickly to secure Portuguese coach Jose Gomes on a deal set to begin before the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
According to Saudi outlet Al Youm, the club has reached a preliminary agreement with Gomes, currently in charge of Saudi side Al Fath.
The decision comes after Al Ahly parted ways with Swiss manager Marcel Koller. Former player Emad El Nahas is leading the team temporarily while the club finalizes the new appointment.
Gomes, who once managed Zamalek, is reportedly set to earn $150,000 per month in his new role. His strong performance with Al Fath has not gone unnoticed, guiding the team to 11th place in the Saudi Roshan League, four points clear of relegation.
Al Fath’s upcoming clash against Al Wahda will be critical, with both teams battling to stay safe. Despite their current focus, signs suggest Gomes could soon take the reins at Al Ahly, ushering in a new era for the Cairo-based club as they prepare for global competition.
