Former Al-Ahly midfielder Saleh Gomaa has voiced concerns over how the club is handling Emam Ashour’s situation, describing it as unfair.
The Egyptian international is serving a two-week suspension after missing the team’s trip to Tanzania for their CAF Champions League clash with Young Africans.
Speaking to MBC Egypt 2, Gomaa revealed he recently met Ashour for dinner and discussed the midfielder’s approach to certain decisions.
“He’s making choices that don’t always align with the team, and it’s affecting him the way it affected us in the past,” Gomaa said.
Gomaa added that Ashour has personal ambitions at the club that he keeps private.
“He wants specific things to happen in his career at Al-Ahly. He feels wronged and believes he is one of Egypt’s top players, both in terms of performance and financially. He expects better treatment and a proper dialogue with the club.”
The former player also suggested that financial considerations may be at the heart of the current dispute.
“He’s performing well, has offers on the table, and is thinking about his future. That’s a legitimate right.”
Gomaa concluded with a cautionary note for Ashour regarding fan perception: “I advised him not to clash with the supporters. Fans often see the club itself as the star, not any single player.”
