Al Ahly injuries: Amr El Gazar and Yasser Ibrahim set for medical tests

Al Ahly defender Amr El Gazar suffered a knee sprain while Yasser Ibrahim sustained an ankle sprain in the 1-1 draw with Al Mokawloon Al Arab, club doctor Ahmed Gaballah has confirmed.

The two defenders will undergo medical examinations to establish the extent of their injuries and determine the treatment programmes required, according to Al Ahly’s official website.

Speaking after the Egyptian Premier League match, Gaballah said: “Amr El Gazar’s injury is a sprained knee.”

He added: “Yasser Ibrahim’s injury is a sprained ankle.”

Gaballah continued: “Both players will undergo medical examinations to determine the extent of the injury and the treatment programme.”

El Gazar was forced to leave the field during the second half of the match against Al Mokawloon Al Arab, with Hady Riad replacing him. Ibrahim was injured in the closing minutes of the game.

The draw brought an end to Al Ahly’s winning start to the league season. They collected one point from the match to move on to 10 points, leaving them level with Zamalek.

Al Mokawloon Al Arab moved to four points and sit 13th in the table.

The result also allowed Pyramids FC to move clear at the top of the Egyptian Premier League with 12 points.

The match was played at Al Mokawloon Al Arab’s stadium, known as Green Mountain, as part of the fourth round of the competition. Both sides scored once, with neither able to claim victory.

Al Ahly must now wait for the results of the medical tests before the likely absence of either defender can be assessed. The club has confirmed the nature of both injuries but has not yet announced how long El Gazar or Ibrahim may be unavailable.

The situation adds to the significance of the latest league result for Al Ahly, who had been collecting victories before being held by Al Mokawloon Al Arab. Their point took them to 10, but left them behind Pyramids FC, who are now the only team at the summit on 12 points.

Zamalek remain level with Al Ahly on 10 points, while Al Mokawloon Al Arab’s point moved them to four points and 13th place.
