The chairman of Egyptian football giants Al Ahly, Mahmoud El Khatib, held a crucial meeting with key club officials following their elimination from the CAF Champions League on Friday.
In attendance were sporting director Mokhtar Mokhtar, head of the planning committee, and Mohamed Shawky.
The meeting came after Al Ahly’s 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of their CAF Champions League match at Cairo Sports Stadium, which saw them exit the competition.
A source close to the matter revealed to Kooora that El Khatib is focusing on resolving the future of coach Koller, amid widespread disappointment over the team’s poor performance and their failure to secure a continental title.
At the same time, the club’s treasurer, Khaled Mortagy, is negotiating with Koller’s agent, Dino Lamberti, to reduce the penalty clause for terminating the coach’s contract from two months (440,000 euros) to just one.
However, Koller is adamant about either finishing out his contract or receiving the full penalty sum.
The situation is expected to reach a resolution soon, particularly after the cancellation of the main training session scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium, which had been planned in preparation for Al Ahly’s upcoming league match against Petrojet.
Al Ahly now shifts its focus to the Egyptian Premier League, where they are currently in second place with 40 points.
