Al Ahly head to CAS to appeal FIFA ruling in case involving former coach Jose Riveiro
Egyptian giants Al Ahly have confirmed it will take formal legal action following a decision by the FIFA Players’ Status Chamber in favour of former head coach Jose Riveiro.
In an official statement, the club announced that Dr. Abdullah Shehata, legal advisor for the football sector, will file an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the ruling concerning the Spanish coach, who previously led the club’s first team.
According to the statement, the decision orders Al Ahly to pay total compensation amounting to 588,000 dollars. The figure includes the penalty clause stipulated in Riveiro’s contract, equivalent to three months’ salary.
Dr. Shehata explained that the appeal will be lodged within a maximum period of three weeks, pending receipt of the full reasoning behind the decision. He stressed that the ruling is not final and remains subject to further levels of appeal under the established legal procedures.
The Egyptian giants are therefore preparing to challenge the verdict in the hope of overturning or reducing the financial obligation imposed by FIFA’s Players’ Status Chamber.
