Egyptian giants Al Ahly hand Emam Ashour long-term deal

Al Ahly are reportedly preparing for a major squad reshuffle, with Moroccan defender Achraf Dari among the players who could leave the Egyptian giants before the close of the summer transfer window.

According to a source, the club’s hierarchy is in discussions to reach an amicable agreement to terminate the contracts of both Dari and Tunisian winger Mohamed Dhaoui, known as “Christo”, as part of a wider restructuring plan ahead of the new season.

At the same time, Al Ahly have moved to secure the future of midfielder Emam Ashour by agreeing a new long-term contract that would keep him at the club until 2030.

Dari among players facing exit

The reported talks involving Dari and Christo are part of Al Ahly’s efforts to reshape their squad and create room for new signings.

Dari joined the Cairo club from French side Brest after successful spells with Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club and in Ligue 1.

The 27-year-old made 27 appearances in all competitions for Al Ahly, but despite featuring regularly, he struggled to cement his place in the starting line-up.

Club officials are now said to be considering his departure as they reassess their foreign-player options.

Christo, meanwhile, arrived from Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel in January 2023 and later spent time on loan at CS Sfaxien.

The 22-year-old winger played 19 matches for Al Ahly, scoring once and registering two assists, but also found it difficult to establish himself in the team.

Al Ahly secure Ashour’s future

While uncertainty surrounds the futures of some players, Al Ahly have reportedly made it clear that Emam Ashour remains central to their long-term plans.

The Egypt international attracted interest from several clubs in recent weeks, but the club’s management has rejected the possibility of selling one of its key midfielders.

According to Africa Foot, Al Ahly have reached an agreement with Ashour and his representatives over a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2030.

The new deal is also expected to include a significant salary increase, reflecting the player’s importance within the squad.

The contrasting situations involving Dari and Ashour underline Al Ahly’s strategy as they prepare for the new campaign.

While the club is reportedly willing to part ways with some foreign players to make space for reinforcements, it is equally determined to retain the core of the team.

For Moroccan defender Dari, the coming weeks could prove decisive as Al Ahly continue their efforts to reshape a squad capable of competing for domestic and continental honours.
