The eagerly awaited match will take place at Cairo International Stadium on October 29, 2024, where the Egyptian club will face their Asian counterparts in what has been dubbed the “Challenge Cup.”
Khaled Mortagy, a board member of Al Ahly, confirmed the news during an interview with Al Ahly TV.
“We have secured approval for a crowd of 52,000 fans for the game against Al Ain, which is nearly the full capacity of Cairo International Stadium,” Mortagy stated, underscoring the significance of this event for the club and its passionate fanbase.
Ticket prices for the match have also been announced, with Mortagy detailing the different tiers:
“Ticket prices will be as follows: 100 LE for third class, 250 LE for second class, and 500 LE for first class.
He added that Al Ahly would be responsible for all organizational expenses related to the game, with ticket sales being the sole revenue for the club in this high-profile fixture.
The showdown between Al Ahly and Al Ain marks the beginning of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, a new competition set to replace the FIFA Club World Cup.
The tournament brings together continental champions from around the world to vie for the ultimate prize in international club football.
Al Ahly, as the reigning African champions, will be looking to assert their dominance on the global stage against the best teams from other confederations.
Following their clash with Al Ain, the tournament will move to Qatar, where the remainder of the competition will be held from December 11 to December 18, 2024.
The winner of the match in Cairo will advance to face either the CONCACAF champions, Mexican club Pachuca, or the winner of the Copa Libertadores, which has yet to be determined.
The event is not only significant for the clubs involved but also for the fans, who are eager to witness Al Ahly continue their proud tradition of competing at the highest level.
The team’s fanbase, one of the largest and most passionate in African football, is expected to fill the stadium and create an electric atmosphere that will further intensify the competition.
Al Ahly’s participation in this new-look Intercontinental Cup reflects the club’s longstanding commitment to excellence on both the domestic and international fronts.
With the full support of their fans behind them, the team is poised to give everything on the field in their quest to bring another international title back to Cairo.
