Al Ahly grant Morocco defender Youssef Belamri two-week break after World Cup campaign
Morocco international Youssef Belamri has been handed a two-week break by Al Ahly SC head coach Hussein Ammouta following his 2026 World Cup participation, where the team bowed out at quarterfinals.
Ammouta decided to delay Belamri’s return to Al Ahly training as part of a plan to help the Moroccan defender recover physically and mentally after his involvement with the Atlas Lions during the global tournament.
The former Raja CA player was included in Morocco’s World Cup squad throughout the competition but did not feature in any of the matches.
Al Ahly’s technical staff believe the additional rest period will allow Belamri to regain full fitness, refresh mentally and return in better condition ahead of the club’s preparations for the new season.
Ammouta has adopted a similar approach with Al Ahly’s international players after the World Cup, urging them to take sufficient time away from football following the intense demands of representing their countries.
The coach’s decision is aimed at preventing fatigue-related issues and ensuring that the players return to the squad fully prepared for the upcoming campaign.
Belamri joined Al Ahly after making a name for himself at Raja Casablanca, and the Egyptian giants are hoping he can play an important role in their defensive setup once he resumes training with the team.
