Al Ahly fans have unleashed their anger on midfielder Emam Ashour following his recent controversial behavior, which pushed the club’s management to suspend and fine him heavily.
Last Thursday, Al Ahly announced the biggest financial penalty in its history for a player, targeting Ashour after he failed to travel with the team to Tanzania without notifying the club.
Ashour did not join the squad for the CAF Champions League clash against Young Africans in Dar es Salaam, a match that ended 1–1, and his absence sparked outrage among supporters. Al Ahly responded by imposing a fine of 1.5 million Egyptian pounds, suspending him for two weeks, and ordering him to train individually.
Despite Ashour later presenting an apology for missing the trip, the reaction in the stands showed that many fans have not forgiven him. In Al Ahly’s first home appearance at Cairo International Stadium after the incident, during the league match against National Bank of Egypt, supporters chanted angrily against Ashour and demanded his departure.
They also revived the club’s famous motto “Al Ahly above all,” underlining their belief that no player is bigger than the team. Ashour remained absent from the squad due to his ongoing suspension.
