Ethiopia’s Saladin Seals Three-Year Deal with Al Ahly
Ethiopian international striker Saladin Said has completed a move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly, signing a three-year contract with the reigning champions.
The 25-year-old forward joins the Cairo-based club after reaching the end of his contract with Wadi Degla. A key figure for both club and country, Saladin captains Ethiopia’s national team — the Walya Antelopes — and has been a consistent performer in the Egyptian Premier League.
His transfer to Al Ahly marks a significant step in his career, with the Ethiopian now set to feature for one of Africa’s most successful and high-profile clubs. The deal will see him stay with the Red Devils until 2017.
Saladin’s former club, Wadi Degla, finished third in the league last season and made a commendable debut on the continental stage by participating in the CAF Confederation Cup. After overcoming AS Douanes of Togo in the earlier rounds, their campaign came to an end in the third round following a penalty shootout defeat to Mali’s Djoliba AC.
Despite Wadi Degla’s exit from the tournament, Saladin’s performances continued to draw attention. His pace, strength, and eye for goal have made him a standout striker in the region, and his move to Al Ahly is seen as both a reward for his consistency and a challenge to test himself at a higher level.
Al Ahly, known for their continental pedigree and passionate fanbase, will be hoping Saladin can bolster their attacking options as they continue to chase domestic and CAF titles.
The Ethiopian’s arrival adds further international experience to Al Ahly’s squad, as the club seeks to maintain its dominance in Egypt and make a strong impression in African competitions.
