Al Ahly duo of Mohamed El Shenawy and Mohamed Hany are facing a potential sanction from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following an attack on referee during their Champions League clash against Al Hilal.
The pair were involved when Al Ahly secured a narrow victory over the Sudanese giants in the first leg clash of the quarterfinals held at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday.
Mohamed Hany’s early strike was enough to secure victory for the defending champions at their own backyard.
The much-anticipated clash witnessed a severe crisis after goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy and his teammate Mohamed Hany attacked Chadian referee Mohamed El Hajji at the end of the match.
The duo objected to some of the refereeing decisions, with Mohamed Hany touching the referee.
It was Mohamed Shawky, the deputy sporting director of Al Ahly, who intervened to resolve the issue.
The duo could face a possible sanction from the continental football governing following their altercation with the referee.
Al Hilal will play host to Al Ahly in the return leg clash scheduled for next week Tuesday in Mauritania.
