Al Ahly’s medical team has revealed the extent of the injuries suffered by Ahmed Mostafa Zizo and Yasser Ibrahim during the 1-1 draw away to Young Africans in the CAF Champions League group stage.

The result kept the Egyptian champions top of Group B on 8 points, three clear of the Tanzanian side.

Club doctor Ahmed Gaballah confirmed that defender Yasser Ibrahim picked up a mild hamstring strain, stressing that his condition is reassuring and he will undergo further tests on the team’s return to Cairo. He added that winger Zizo complained of slight calf fatigue during the game and will also have medical examinations after arriving back in Egypt.

Head coach Jess Thorup admitted the match was as demanding as he expected, pointing to the heat, humidity and passionate home support in Dar es Salaam.

He expressed dissatisfaction with Al Ahly’s first-half display, explaining that he delivered strong instructions at the break, which helped the team improve, score the equaliser and create a big late chance.

Thorup said the draw is “a good result against a strong opponent” and highlighted that every point is vital in a tight group as Al Ahly move closer to the quarterfinals.
