Al Ahly deny approach for Mohamed Elneny amid Dieng speculation

Al Ahly have dismissed reports suggesting they have approached Mohamed Elneny as a potential replacement for Aliou Dieng, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

The Egyptian midfielder, formerly of Arsenal FC, had been repeatedly linked with a move to the Cairo giants following speculation over Dieng’s future.

However, sources close to the club confirmed that no discussions have taken place regarding a transfer or contract negotiations with Elneny.

Coach Jesse Torp is reportedly keen to retain Dieng, who has been a key figure in Al Ahly’s midfield. Yet, the club is already considering succession planning, with an emphasis on younger players who can handle the pressures of both domestic and continental competitions.

“The focus remains on developing talent capable of performing under the demands of Al Ahly and the matches ahead,” a club source said, emphasizing that the attention has not shifted to established internationals such as Elneny.

Elneny, 31, has maintained consistent performances in recent seasons, but Al Ahly’s approach appears to prioritise long-term squad planning over high-profile signings.

The decision reflects the club’s strategy of combining immediate competitiveness with sustainable development in midfield.

As the end of Dieng’s contract draws near, fans and media continue to speculate about replacements.

Nevertheless, the club has clarified that Mohamed Elneny is not under consideration, and attention is turning toward younger prospects capable of contributing to Al Ahly’s future ambitions.
