Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC have pegged the bar high for any potential transfer of their star defender, Mohamed Abdelmonem, according to various media reports
The 25-year-old centre-back has attracted the interest of French outfit OGC Nice, who have tabled a 2.5 million Euros offer for his services.
Al Ahly, though, is playing hardball and has come out guns blazing – insisting on 4 million Euros before they decide to let go of Abdelmonem.
The interest of Nice in Abdelmonem first came to the fore in early July, with reports stating the French club is keen to strengthen their backline for the new season in Ligue 1.
The highly-rated Egypt centre-back has been one of Al Ahly’s most important players during this period, winning several local and continental trophies.
He has also been influential for the Egyptian national team, even guiding the Pharoahs to finish as runners-up in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
What perhaps raised eyebrows was Al Ahly’s demand of 4 million Euros for his services. Having fallen short of that valuation in their initial offer, the two clubs are now negotiating to try and reach a compromise.
Al Ahly is the most successful club in Africa, with a lot of heritage and great supporters. It has prestige to uphold, hence cannot let any of its best players go without finding an adequate replacement.
