Yasser Ibrahim suffers fresh injury

Al Ahly have suffered a potential setback in their preparations for their CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Uganda’s Kitara FC after defender Yasser Ibrahim experienced fresh ankle pain during Thursday’s training session.

The centre-back was forced to leave the session early after feeling discomfort, raising concerns within the technical team as the Egyptian giants prepare for the second leg of their Round of 32 tie.

However, information from within the club suggests that the latest pain appears to be minor, offering some relief to Al Ahly as they continue preparations for the crucial continental fixture.

Ibrahim had only recently returned to group training after spending an extended period on the sidelines with an ankle sprain sustained during the match against Al Mokawloon Al Arab on September 9.

His latest setback comes at a delicate moment for the defender, although he will miss Sunday’s encounter against Kitara regardless of his fitness status due to a suspension imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Al Ahly defender was handed a two-match ban and a $5,000 fine by CAF’s disciplinary committee following the incidents surrounding the club’s quarter-final encounter against Esperance de Tunis in last season’s CAF Champions League.

Al Ahly will host Kitara at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday as they seek to secure their place in the next round of the competition.

The Red Devils head into the return fixture with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg and will be determined to finish the job on home soil to keep their continental campaign on track.
