Al Ahly’s Yasser Ibrahim has hit back with emotion after facing intense criticism for his role in the team’s African Champions League semi-final heartbreak against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 30-year-old defender came under fire from sections of Al Ahly supporters after his unfortunate own goal in stoppage time handed Sundowns a crucial 1-1 draw at the Cairo International Stadium. The South African side advanced to the final on away goals, following a goalless first leg.
Ibrahim took to Instagram Friday evening to respond, posting: “Hassabi Allah wa Naim al-Wakeel (God’s mercy and favour to anyone who wrongs my family, fear God).”
His words came after an emotional night for the Cairo giants. Angry fans at the stadium also directed their frustration at head coach Marcel Koller, throwing bottles in protest of the team’s performance and elimination.
With the Champions League dream now over, Al Ahly must regroup quickly. The Red Devils will look to bounce back when they face Petrojet in the Egyptian Premier League on April 30.
