Al Ahly defender Karim Fouad suffers fresh injury setback in win over Al Mokawloon
Al Ahly defender Karim Fouad suffered another injury setback during his outfit 3–1 victory over Al Mokawloon Al Arab SC in the 21st round of the Egyptian Premier League.
The defender was forced off in the early minutes of the first half after picking up the injury, casting a shadow over an otherwise positive night for the Red Devils, who secured all three points in the league encounter.
According to the club’s initial medical assessment, Fouad sustained a knee contusion accompanied by a sprain in the lateral meniscus. The medical staff have scheduled detailed scans for Friday to determine the full extent of the injury and outline the next steps for his treatment.
The latest setback has once again drawn attention to Fouad’s unfortunate injury history in recent years, which has repeatedly disrupted his progress and availability for the team.
The defender’s run of serious injuries began on January 2, 2023, when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament that sidelined him for 267 days. After eventually returning to action, he endured another muscle injury on October 8, 2023, forcing him to miss 24 days of football.
Further misfortune struck on August 8, 2024, when Fouad sustained another cruciate ligament tear, this time in his right knee, ruling him out for 287 days — one of the longest absences of his career.
His injury struggles continued when he suffered a muscle injury on August 30, 2025, keeping him out for 34 days before he returned to action. In December 2025, he sustained damage to part of the medial collateral ligament along with another cruciate ligament issue, which required an extensive rehabilitation program and kept him sidelined for between four and six weeks.
Overall, Fouad has missed a total of 672 days through injuries during his time with Al Ahly, highlighting the persistent challenges he has faced in maintaining fitness.
Both the technical and medical staff at Al Ahly will now be hoping that the latest injury proves to be minor, especially as the club prepares for a demanding stretch of fixtures in the latter stages of the season. The team will be eager to have the versatile defender available as they continue their pursuit of domestic and continental success.
