Al Ahly defender Amr El Gazzar ruled out for months with cruciate ligament injury

Al Ahly have confirmed that defender Amr El Gazzar has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, along with damage to the medial meniscus, and is expected to be sidelined for several months.

The Egyptian club announced the diagnosis on Thursday after the player underwent scans earlier in the day.

“Dr Ahmed Gaballah, head of the first-team medical staff, said the scans carried out by Amr El Gazzar this morning revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a tear to the medial meniscus,” Al Ahly said in an official statement.

“Gaballah confirmed that arrangements are being made to determine the date of the player’s surgery in the coming period.”

El Gazzar sustained the injury during Al Ahly’s 1-1 draw with Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the fourth round of the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.

The match also saw fellow Al Ahly centre-back Yasser Ibrahim suffer an injury. The club has now formally confirmed the nature of El Gazzar’s problem.
