Al Ahly defender Amr El Gazar ruled out for up to nine months with ACL injury

Al Ahly defender Amr El Gazar has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damage to the medial meniscus in his knee, bringing his season to an end.

The extent of the injury was confirmed after scans carried out by the player on the morning of the announcement. Ahmed Gaballah, head of Al Ahly’s medical department, said the club was working to determine when El Gazar would undergo surgery.

The defender is expected to be out for up to nine months.

El Gazar was injured during the second half of Al Ahly’s Egyptian Premier League match against Al Mokawloon Al Arab and was replaced by Hady Riyad.

The game at Al Jabal Al Akhdar ended in a 1-1 draw, denying Al Ahly victory for the first time in the league this season. The result left them with 10 points, level with Zamalek.

Al Mokawloon Al Arab moved on to four points and 13th place, while Pyramids FC took sole possession of first place with 12 points.

El Gazar joined Al Ahly during the most recent winter transfer window from National Bank of Egypt. He has made four appearances for the club, without scoring or providing an assist.
