Al Ahly defender Amr Al-Jazzar suffers ACL and medial meniscus tears

Al Ahly have confirmed that defender Amr Al-Jazzar has suffered a serious knee injury that is expected to rule him out for a significant period.

Amr Al-Jazzar sustained a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial meniscus setbacks during the sides 1-1 draw against Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the Egyptian Premier League clash on Wednesday.

The two sides shared the spoils at the Wolves of the Mountain Stadium, with the result leaving Al Ahly on 10 points from their opening matches in the Egyptian top-flight.

Despite dropping points, Al Ahly remain among the leading sides in the standings, currently occupying third place, while Al Mokawloon Al Arab sit 13th with four points.

Following the match, Al Ahly’s medical team conducted examinations on Al-Jazzar to determine the extent of the injury.

Head of the club’s first-team medical staff, Ahmed Gaballah, confirmed that the scans revealed tears to both the anterior cruciate ligament and the medial meniscus.

“X-rays taken of Amr Al-Jazzar this morning revealed that he suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament and a tear in the medial meniscus,” Gaballah said.

The medical staff are now working to determine the date for the player’s surgery, after which he will begin the long rehabilitation process.

“His surgery date is being determined in the coming period, in preparation for the start of the treatment and rehabilitation phase,” Gaballah added.

The injury represents a major setback for Al Ahly, with Al-Jazzar now facing an extended period on the sidelines as he undergoes surgery and rehabilitation.

The club’s medical team will closely monitor his recovery throughout the process, while the technical staff will have to assess their defensive options in his absence.

An ACL injury can require several months of rehabilitation, meaning Al Ahly could be without the defender for a substantial portion of the campaign depending on the progress of his recovery.
