Al Ahly’s journey at the FIFA Club World Cup ended in frustration, not just from results, but from a mounting injury list.
After drawing 4-4 with Porto in their final group match in New Jersey, the Cairo giants bowed out with just two points, finishing bottom of the table.
But the disappointment didn’t end there.
The team’s exit has been overshadowed by a series of injuries that hit key players. Midfielder Emam Ashour is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken collarbone. He’ll be out for at least six weeks.
Taher Mohammed Taher will also miss three weeks due to a muscle tear, while Yasser Ibrahim is expected to return in two weeks after a connective muscle strain.
Adding to the list, a source told Kooora that Hamdi Fathi walked off with a back muscle issue during the Porto match. Meanwhile, Palestinian forward Wessam Abou Ali is also nursing tightness in the same area.
The injuries cap off a frustrating campaign for Al Ahly, who now face a tough recovery period ahead.
