African champions Al Ahly SC have officially signed Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali Swedish club IK Sirius for €1.7 million, AfricaSoccer.com can confirm
The announcement, titled ‘From free Palestine… to the pride of the nation,’ featured an emotional video unveiled by Gaza-based journalist Anas El-Naggar.
Abou Ali, 25, passed his medical in Cairo and inked a four-and-a-half-year deal, making him Al Ahly’s first winter signing.
Notably, he’s expected to be registered as a domestic player due to his Palestinian descent.
This move marks Abou Ali as the first Palestinian player for Al Ahly since goalkeeper Ramzy Saleh from 2008 to 2010.
Born in Denmark, Abou Ali previously played for Aalborg BK, Silkeborg IF, and Vendsyssel FF, showcasing his talent in the Danish football tiers.
His international experience includes representing Denmark at the 2016 European Under-17 Championship.
Al Ahly’s search for a clinical striker seems fulfilled with this strategic signing, while they are also nearing a deal with Egypt international Omar Kamal from Future FC.
The former Denmark youth international player was outstanding in the 2023 season of the Swedish top division, where he netted 10 goals in 16 appearances for Sirius.
