Egypt’s Ahly booked their place in the CAF Champions League group stages after earning a second 1-0 win over Burundi’s Aigle Noir, repeating their first-leg scoreline at Stade du Cairo.
Playing with ten men since the 16th minute after a red card, Ahly’s resolve was tested, but Omar Kamal sealed the win in the 58th minute, igniting celebrations among the home fans.
Coach Jess Thorup managed the squad very well, resting several star players like Zizo and goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy due to the packed schedule. Despite a less-than-brilliant performance, Ahly held firm against a determined Aigle Noir side who created several chances, especially after the red card, before Ahly’s defense cleared their lines.
The match was marked by tense moments, courageous defending, and tactical adjustments that saw the team adapt when down a player. For Ahly, the victory not only secured a group stage spot but renewed hopes of reclaiming their continental crown after last season’s semifinal exit. Their supporters now look ahead with optimism, believing in a strong campaign ahead.
