Al Ahly have taken a firm stance against striker Wessam Abu Ali by handing him a fourth fine following his refusal to report for team duties, escalating tensions between club and player.
Sporting director Mohamed Youssef issued the new punishment after Abu Ali skipped both morning and evening training sessions at the Mokhtar El-Tetsh Stadium without approval, according to a source who spoke to Kooora.
“Mohamed Youssef decided to impose a fourth penalty on Wessam, following the first for using social media, as well as for failing to report for physical measurements and undergo an MRI,” the source revealed.
The latest fine will see a 30% cut in the player’s monthly wage, amounting to an added $30,000 loss.
Abu Ali’s continued absence appears to be part of a growing push to secure a transfer to Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew. Al Ahly, however, are holding firm, refusing to be strong-armed into letting their player go on such terms.
As the standoff deepens, all eyes are on whether the club’s discipline or the player’s desire to leave will prevail.
