Al Ahly board member Mohamed Serag El-Din found himself at the center of heated debate after posting and then deleting a congratulatory message to rivals Pyramids FC.

The gesture, shared on his official Facebook page, quickly drew backlash from passionate Al Ahly supporters who saw it as inappropriate given the long-standing tension between the two clubs.

Serag had originally written: “Congratulations to Pyramids FC, as an Egyptian team, for deservedly winning the Tri-Confederations Cup. I respect the dedication on the pitch and the spirit and manliness of playing. Good luck to our Saudi brother club, Al-Ahly Jeddah, in the upcoming tournaments.”

The response was immediate. Fans filled social media with criticism, while fellow board member Mohamed El-Garhy reacted with a surprised emoji under the post.

Faced with growing pressure, Serag deleted the message and clarified his intentions. He stressed that his words were meant to praise the Egyptian players’ effort against a non-Egyptian team, not to applaud the Pyramids management. He added that he values honesty and loyalty to Al Ahly above all, reaffirming his stance in support of the club’s traditions.
