Al Ahly beat Fuchse Berlin to set up Club World Cup clash with Zamalek

Al Ahly defeated Germany’s Fuchse Berlin 30-27 in their final group-stage match at the Handball Club World Cup in Egypt.

The result set up an all-Egyptian meeting with Zamalek in the match for third and fourth place. Zamalek secured their place in the play-off by beating Brazilian side Pinheiros.

Al Ahly led 16-14 at half-time and maintained their advantage after the interval to complete the victory.

The tournament is being held at the indoor arena in the New Administrative Capital in Egypt.

Al Ahly began the group stage with a defeat by Hungarian side Veszprem before recovering to beat Kuwait’s Burqan and Fuchse Berlin.

The win was the third time an African team had beaten European opposition at the Club World Cup.

Al Ahly’s previous victories over European teams at the tournament were:

– 2022: Al Ahly 29-28 Benfica – 2024: Al Ahly 32-29 Barcelona, in the bronze-medal match – 2026: Al Ahly 30-27 Fuchse Berlin

The Club World Cup final will be contested by Spanish club Barcelona and Veszprem, who have four Egyptian players in their squad: Ahmed Adel “Dola”, Yehia El-Deraa, Ali Zein and Ahmed Hisham “Dodo”.
