Al Ahly have backed head coach, Jose Riveiro despite their uninspiring performance in the ongoing 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
After two games into the tournament, the Egyptian side have recorded a defeat and a draw. Ahly were held to a goalless scoreline before losing 2-0 against Brazilian side, Palmeiras.
The 12 time African champions will now have to beat FC Porto in their final group game on Tuesday at the MetLife Stadium with kick off scheduled at 01:00 GMT
Despite their unconvincing performance, the club are fully behind new coach Jose Riveiro. The leadership of the club are now set to change their transfer plans according to reports.
The reports addd that the club were only looking to sign a left-back and a striker after the Club World Cup, but they have decided to add more by also looking at the right-back position.
“Al-Ahly’s management had intended to only support the left-back and striker positions. Things have changed radically now, and the focus is now on supporting the left and right-back positions, in addition to a local striker,” the source said.
“The level Mohamed Hany showed in the tournament, the frequent injuries to Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed’s replacement, and the departure of Akram Tawfik made strengthening the right-back position an urgent necessity.”
“Strengthening the center-back position is on the table, but it’s not a priority at the moment due to the presence of Moroccan Achraf Dari and Yasser Ibrahim, along with the permanent purchase of Mustafa Al-Ash and the loan of Ahmed Ramadan Beckham from Ceramica for a season.”
