Al Ahly are assessing Taher Mohamed Taher after the forward reported pain in his elbow during their 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers in the Egyptian Premier League.
Ahmed Gaballah, head of Al Ahly’s medical staff, said Taher felt discomfort after appearing in the fifth-round match at Cairo International Stadium.
“Taher Mohamed Taher felt pain in the elbow after taking part in the match against Abu Qir Fertilizers,” Gaballah said on Al Ahly’s official website.
He added: “The player went for an X-ray on the injured area to provide further reassurance about his condition.”
Taher came on in the 89th minute, replacing Moroccan forward Sufian Benjeddah.
The result put Al Ahly back to winning ways in the league after they drew 1-1 with Al Mokawloon Al Arab in their previous match.
Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” and Hussein El Shahat scored the goals as Al Ahly moved to 13 points and went temporarily top of the table, with the matches involving Zamalek and Pyramids still to be played.
Abu Qir Fertilizers remain on three points in 17th place.
Al Ahly’s next league fixture is against Zamalek on 11 October in the sixth round.
