Al Ahly are favourites to win the CAF Champions League – Pyramids FC assistant coach Mohamed Gedo

Head coach of Pyramids FC Mohamed Nagy Gedo has ranked Egyptian giants Al Ahly as the clear favourites to win the CAF Champions League title this season.

Following the draw, the record Champions League holders has been paired against Esperance de Tunis in a blockbuster quarterfinal clash next month, while Pyramids FC takes on FAR Rabat of Morocco.

The first leg of the quarterfinal has been scheduled for the weekend of March 13-15, 2026, with the reverse fixture slated for March 20-22, 2026.

Despite being the defending champions, Mohamed Nagy Gedo insists are the clear favourites to win the title, followed by his outfit and Al Hilal in that order.

“Al-Ahly is the first candidate to win the African Champions League, Pyramids is the second candidate, and Al-Hilal of Sudan is the third candidate.” He told MBC Egypt.

“Pyramids competes in all the tournaments it participates in, and we have the strongest defense and the strongest attack in the African Champions League.”

“We know very well that the African groups are completely different from the knockout rounds. We trust the players and the coaching staff to get past the quarter-finals in the Champions League.”

With tight scheduling across domestic and continental calendars, managing squad rotation, travel and pressure will be crucial over these two legs.
