The impending Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to commence in Ivory Coast on January 12 has unveiled the dominance of players from Al Ahly and Pyramids in the roster of the Egyptian national team.
This revelation comes after Portuguese head coach Rui Vitoria announced the squad that will participate in the tournament.
Vitoria’s list prominently features seven players from Al Ahly, showcasing a formidable representation:
– Mohamed El Shenawy
– Mohamed Hani
– Mohamed Abdel-Moneim
– Marwan Mohsen
– Nabil Kouka
– Emam Ashour
– Mahmoud Kahraba
In addition to these seven, Ali Maaloul joined the Tunisian national team, and Aliou Dieng became part of the Egyptian squad.
Percy Tau is also included in the list for the South African national team.
Consequently, Al Ahly contributes a substantial ten players to the AFCON, underlining the club’s significant presence.
On the other hand, Rui Vitoria opted to include six players from Pyramids in the national team:
– Ahmed El Shenawy
– Ali Gabr
– Ahmed Samy
– Osama Jalal
– Mohamed Hamdi
– Mostafa Fathi
Among them, Mohamed El Shiby has joined the Moroccan national team, and Blati Toure is part of the Burkina Faso squad.
Additionally, Viston Mayele has secured a spot in the Congo national team.
With these selections, Pyramids will be represented by a total of nine players in the AFCON.
In contrast, the participation of Zamalek players is relatively modest, with only three players from the club in the Egyptian national team: Mohamed Sabry, Ahmed Fotouh, and Ahmed El Sayed Zizo.
No overseas-based player from Zamalek has joined the national team for the tournament.
As the AFCON draws near, the formidable presence of Al Ahly and Pyramids players in the Egyptian national team highlights the significant role these clubs play in shaping the country’s football landscape.
