Al Ahly agree five-year deal for Petrojet left-back Tawfik Mohamed

Al Ahly have completed the signing of Petrojet left-back Tawfik Mohamed on a five-year contract, with the deal worth an initial £32m in Egyptian currency, according to a source at Petrojet.

The source told FilGoal.com that the transfer fee will be paid in two instalments. Al Ahly will pay £20m as the first payment, while the remaining £12m will be settled when the second instalment is due.

The agreement also includes a further £10m in add-ons, as well as a 15% sell-on clause that will give Petrojet a share of any future transfer fee received for the player.

The 26-year-old has now signed the final documents to become an Al Ahly player during the current summer transfer window. He has been with Petrojet since 2022 and made 31 appearances for the club last season, providing one assist.

In total, Tawfik Mohamed has played 55 matches for Petrojet in domestic competitions, including the league, cup and Super Cup. He has contributed two assists across those appearances.

Al Ahly moved for a new left-back after announcing that Morocco international Youssef Belammari would miss the entire season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Belammari suffered the injury during Al Ahly’s friendly against Spanish side Badalona. The club had been seeking a replacement and, according to an earlier source from Al Ahly, submitted a formal offer to Petrojet for Tawfik Mohamed.

Al Ahly began their first friendly in Spain with Karim Fouad operating at left-back against Badalona. Belammari came on in the second half and played in the same position before his injury was confirmed.

The Egyptian champions’ training camp will continue until 20 August, with intensive daily sessions and a number of friendly matches scheduled during the stay.

Al Ahly will also face Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August.

The club’s league campaign will begin against Eastern Company Enppi, while their first-round schedule will conclude with a meeting against Wadi Degla.
