Al Ahly agree deal to sign Petrojet left-back Tawfik Mohamed

Al Ahly have reached a final agreement with Petrojet to sign left-back Tawfik Mohamed during the current summer transfer window.

The deal was completed between the two clubs after Al Ahly moved to strengthen the position following the season-ending injury suffered by Morocco international Youssef Belammari. The Egyptian club are now working quickly to find a replacement for Belammari, who will miss the entire campaign after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Belammari sustained the injury during Al Ahly’s friendly against Spanish side Badalona. The club later confirmed the seriousness of the knee problem, leaving them short of options at left-back as preparations continue for the new season.

An Al Ahly source had previously revealed that the club submitted an official offer to Petrojet for Tawfik Mohamed. Negotiations have now concluded with an agreement understood to have been reached on a permanent basis.

Mohamed, 26, has played for Petrojet since 2022. He made 31 appearances for the club last season and provided one assist.

Across his time in domestic competitions, including the league, cup and Super Cup, the left-back has made 55 appearances and created two goals.

Al Ahly used Karim Fouad at left-back from the start of their first friendly in Spain against Badalona. Belammari was introduced after half-time and took up the same position before his injury was confirmed.

The Egyptian champions are continuing their training camp, which runs until 20 August. The programme includes intensive daily sessions as well as a number of friendly matches.

One of the most notable fixtures during the camp will be against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy on 19 August. The match is part of Al Ahly’s preparations ahead of the domestic season and will provide another opportunity for the squad to build fitness and cohesion.

Al Ahly will begin their league campaign against Eastern Company and ENPPI, before ending the first half of the season with a fixture against Wadi Degla.

The agreement for Mohamed’s arrival gives the club another option in a defensive position that has become a priority because of Belammari’s absence. With the new season approaching and the team still involved in its Spanish preparations, Al Ahly have moved to secure cover at left-back while continuing their schedule of training and friendly matches.
