Former Egypt international Rida Abdel Aal has alleged that internal interference at Al Ahly influenced coach Jose Riveiro’s team selections prior to his dismissal.

Riveiro was relieved of his duties last weekend following a 2-0 loss to Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League.

The Spaniard managed just one win from the club’s opening four league matches and failed to register a victory at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Abdel Aal claims Riveiro was not fully in control of his squad choices.

“For me, Ribeiro was wronged at Al Ahly because he wasn’t working on his own terms; he was putting in the line-up that certain people wanted, not what he wanted.”

He pointed to the inclusion of goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy as an example of such interference.

“The evidence that he was being imposed upon by others is that the player El-Shenawy was ordered in.

“Yes, Ribeiro is technically lacking, but for me, he was wronged.”
