Mohamed Aboutrika, the iconic player of Al Ahly, received a financial sanction from the club’s management committee following the Champions League final against Orlando Pirates. Aboutrika allegedly displayed behavior considered inappropriate, as he refused to receive his medal from the Egyptian sports minister after Al Ahly’s coronation.
Instead of accepting the medal, Aboutrika chose to join his teammates directly for the post-match photos. In response to this action, the club leaders decided to impose a fine of 50 thousand Egyptian pounds (approximately 5348.68 euros) on the player.
Despite this incident, Aboutrika’s contributions to Al Ahly’s success in winning their 8th continental title are acknowledged. The 35-year-old veteran, who spent his entire football career in Africa, has an impressive track record, including winning three consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) titles in 2006, 2008, and 2010.
