Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ahli FC have honoured Senegal international, Edouard Mendy following their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations success in Morocco.
Fresh from being crowned African champion, the 33-year-old shot-stopper was presented with a commemorative shield, celebrating his outstanding performances throughout the tournament and his role in delivering another AFCON title to Senegal.
The Africa Cup of Nations, held in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, saw Mendy once again establish himself as one of Africa’s most reliable goalkeepers. Calm, authoritative and decisive, he was a pillar of strength at the back for the Taranga Lions as they navigated their way to the trophy.
One of the defining moments of his tournament came with his ice-cold save from Brahim Díaz’s Panenka penalty, a moment that quickly became one of the most iconic highlights of the competition. That save not only underlined Mendy’s composure under pressure but also symbolized the confidence and experience he brought to Senegal’s campaign.
Recognizing both the significance of the achievement and the pride it brings to the club, Al-Ahli FC moved to celebrate their star goalkeeper, acknowledging his excellence on the continental stage and his status as an ambassador for the club in African football.
The tribute further cements Mendy’s reputation as a leader and a champion, with his AFCON success adding another prestigious chapter to an already distinguished career.
